73rd REPUBLIC DAY MARKED WITH GAIETY AND PLEDGE TO SAVE INDIAN CONSTITUTION
Communist Party of India general secretary D Raja urged the party comrades assembled in Central party headquarters Ajoy Bhavan, New Delhi on January 26, 2022 to firmly commit themselves to protect and save our Constitution, which is under attack from the right-wing divisive forces led by RSS, BJP and their cronies.
He was addressing the party comrades — party whole-timers in Ajoy Bhavan, Delhi party comrades, their families including children — on the 73rd Republic Day, after hoisting the National Flag in the premises of the central party headquarters.
He said our great country became a Republic on January 26, 1950 and certainly the day is a day of celebration for all Indians inside and outside the country. He recalled that CPI had been in the forefront of freedom struggles facing conspiracy cases, bullets, gallows and jails fighting for the rights of all sections of the people. The party had waged heroic struggles and made supreme sacrifices for independence of the country.
Among those present at the programme were party national council members Anil Rajimwale, Krishna Jha, Dr A A Khan, Chidambaram N and Mukti Sangharsh senior journalist Mahesh Rathee.
Today after 72 years of the existence of the Republic, it is an irony and a challenge of history that RSS and its outfits which had no role in the freedom movement have come to the centre-stage of the country and its and are making desperate efforts to convert the Republic of India into a Hindu Rashtra — a theocratic state. The Modi government is executing the evil designs of RSS, aggressively supporting corporate capitalism, he cautioned. The country is continuing its glorious march towards consolidation of independence and advancement towards equity and social progress.
Even in post-Independent India, the CPI remains firmly and fully wedded to the goal of a just socialist society in which equal opportunities for all and guarantee of democratic rights, ensuring the way for ending all forms of exploitation including caste, class and gender. He pointed out to the fact that the working people in both formal and informal sectors, the farmers, socially discriminated downtrodden sections of our people are under attack. In such a situation, this year’s Republic Day celebrations should be an occasion to demonstrate our resolve to Save India, to Save Democracy and to Save Our Constitution and to change India on the basis of the great ideals of our party.
He read out the read the Preamble of our Constitution repledging our commitment to the Constitution and was reciprocated by the participants. The Preamble states: ‘WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and secure all its citizens: JUSTICE, social, economic and political; LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship; EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them all FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation. IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this twenty sixth day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT, AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.
The programme ended with the singing of national anthem, followed by distribution of sweets. The day as appealed by the party national leadership was marked with gaiety, protests and public meetings after the hoisting of the National Flag in the party offices’ premises all over India. Telephonic reports reaching us say of tremendous responses form one and all in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Telangana.
