Com. D. Raja's Letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

We are herewith releasing the full text of the letter written by Shri D. RAJA, General Secretary, CPI to Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman on GST to retired bank employees and officers on their annual Group Health Insurance Policy Premium.

**********

Dated: 11th October, 2019

Respected Madam Nirmalaji

It has been represented to me that the premium payable by the retired bank employees and officers on their annual Group Health Insurance Policy is being subjected to 18% GST which comes to about Rs. 4000 to Rs. 5000 per year.

For the in-service employees, the premium is paid by the bank management and hence employees do not feel the burden but in the case of the retired staff, the premium and the GST on it are paid by these senior citizens. The rate of premium itself is going up every year and hence this 18% GST on it is a big financial burden on them.

Looking to the genuine plight of these senior citizens, I strongly urge upon you to reconsider the matter and remove the premium paid on Group Health Insurance Scheme from the GST list.

With kind regards

Yours sincerely

S/d
