CPI Condemns Privatisation Move of Power Distribution
The National Secretriat of the Communist Party of India issues the following statement condemning strongly the move to privatise power distribution:
The National Secretriat of the Communist Party of India condemns strongly the Narendra Modi government’s move to rush with Electricity Bill (Amendment) Act that sought to effect crucial changes in the country’s power sector including the entry of private players in power distribution business.
The Party understands that the government is in a hurry to hand over power distribution system in Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal to private sector. Consultants have already been appointed to do the necessary study and come out with proposals.
Delhi, Mumbai experiences have shown that privatisation of distribution of power will lead to loot of consumers, with high charges.
Consumers will be at the mercy of corporate houses once the distribution is handed over to them. Also lot of employees engaged in power distribution will become unemployed.
BJP government is systematically weakening the public sector, to handover ultimately to corporate in the country. That will have disastrous effects.
The Party wants the government to give up the idea and take steps to improve present the distribution system.
