CPI Condoles the Demise of Former General Secretary of CPV Com Do Muoi
The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India expresses its heart-felt condolences at the demise of Com Du Muoi, the former General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Việt Nam; former Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Prime Minister) of the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam; former Adviser of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Việt Nam.
Com Du Muoi breathed his last on October 1, 2018 at the age 102. He was a veteran revolutionary who took part in the Popular Front movement. After taking part in various struggles including the August Revolution of 1945 at the Third National Party Congress in September 1960, he was elected as member of the Party Central Committee; serving as Minister of Domestic Trade. In 1969 he became Deputy Prime Minister. Later at the Fourth National Party Congress in December 1976, he was re-elected as a member of the Party Central Committee, and became an alternate member of the Political Bureau. In June 1988, the National Assembly elected him as Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Prime Minister). In December 1997, he resigned from the position of a member of the Party Central Committee and General Secretary of the Party Central Committee. He acted as Adviser of the Party Central Committee until 2000.
In recognition of his great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, he was presented with a Gold Star Order, an insignia of 80-year Party membership, and many other noble orders and medals of Việt Nam and other countries.
The Communist Party of India sends its deep-felt condolences to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and to Com Du Muoi’s family members.
