CPI Expresses Deep Grief over Continuing Deaths of Kids in Bihar
The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement on June 19, 2019 on the alarming number of deaths of kids due to Encephalitis in Bihar:
The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India notes with deep grief and great pain the tragic deaths of children infected with Encephalitis. The number of deaths is so alarming and it has already crossed one hundred and thirty and many of the affected are still in hospital fighting for survival. The dead children were mostly from very marginalized and oppressed section of our society.
The raging epidemic Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) calls for immediate provision of all medical help on a war footing and the governments, both state and centre, must do everything possible to contain the epidemic which first hit Muzaffarpur and surrounding districts, according to reports is spreading to more districts. These were avoidable deaths. It is reported there are 24 lakhs such deaths every year in India due to non-availability of medical help. The governments which spent crores of rupees on ‘Ayushman Bhava’ advertisement only have no money to spare for the rescue of innocent children from poor families.
The Communist Party appeals to all concerned people in the affected areas and outside the state to rush all possible help to tide over the crisis. The National Secretariat conveys its heartfelt condolences to the families of those kids who have succumbed to the disease.
The CPI demands the state and central governments to declare the adequate compensation to the families of the deceased kids.
