CPI Pays Homage to Mahatma Gandhi on 74th Death Anniversary

Updated: Feb 2

‘If Gandhiji Would Have Been Alive, He Would Have Decried RSS-BJP Divisive Moves”

Communist Party of India general secretary D Raja, paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of our Nation, observed that had Gandhiji been alive today he would have definitely condemned New Delhi’s Rajghat on his 74th death anniversary.

January 30, 2022 is the 74th death anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi, who was assassinated by Nathuram Godse on January 30, 1948, at Birla House in New Delhi. Godse, a member of Hindu Mahasabha, fired three bullets in Gandhi’s chest as he made his way to a prayer meeting. Godse was also a member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Raja recalled Gandhiji’s morning prayer where he stressed on multi-faiths and diversity of India’s culture: "Worshipping God is singing the praise of God. Prayer is a confession of one's unworthiness and weakness. God has a thousand names, or rather, He is Nameless. We may worship or pray to Him by whichever name that pleases us. Some call Him Rama, some Krishna, others call Him Rahim, and yet others call Him God. All worship the same spirit, but as all foods do not agree with all, all names do not appeal to all. Each chooses the name according to his associations, and He being the In-Dweller, All-Powerful and Omniscient knows our innermost feelings and responds to us according to our deserts.

“Worship or prayer, therefore, is not to be performed with the lips, but with the heart. And the prayers of those whose tongues are nectared but whose hearts are full of poison are never heard. He, therefore, who would pray to God, must cleanse his heart. Rama was not only on the lips of Hanuman, He was enthroned in his heart. He gave Hanuman exhaustless strength. In His strength he lifted the mountain and crossed the ocean. That faith is nothing but a living, wide awake consciousness of God within. He who has achieved that faith wants nothing. Bodily diseased he is spiritually healthy, physically poor, he rolls in spiritual riches.”

Now that Modi-Shah confidante Yogi has deserted Ayodhya and Ram, one must question their sincerity. It is clear that, Raja said, the RSS-BJP is interested only in vote bank politics.

Raja quoted further for Gandhiji who said categorically: “I came to the conclusion long ago that all religions were true and that also that all had some error in them, and while I hold by my own religion, I should hold other religions as dear as Hinduism. So, we can only pray, if we were Hindus, not that a Christian should become a Hindu; but our innermost prayer should be that a Hindu should become a better Hindu, a Muslim a better Muslim, and a Christian a better Christian.

Homage paying function began with the offering of floral tributes to the portrait of Gandhiji, kept in the premises of party’s central headquarters, Ajoy Bhavan. Among those present at the function are party national council secretary Binoy Viswam MP, national council members Anil Rajimwale, Krishna Jha, Dr AA Khan, Chidambaram N and all full-time comrades in Ajoy Bhavan.
