CPI Decries Caste Hatred Prevailing in TN Villages
Updated: Jun 21, 2019
The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement on June 13, 2019:
The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India expresses its agony at the condition of SC Anganwadi and Mid-Day meal workers in some villages in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu. It is reported that a section of non-Dalit castes mounted pressure that their children cannot eat food cooked by Dalit workers. The State government, succumbing to the pressure, shamelessly transferred the Dalit workers.
The CPI condemns the prevalence of caste hatred in villages and deplores the Tamil Nadu state government’s action. The CPI appeals to the people to uphold anti-caste traditions of Periyar and other leaders in Tamil Nadu.
