CPI Urges Modi Government Not to Sign RCEP Deal
The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement on November 2, 2019 urging Modi government not to signing RCEP deal:
The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India expresses grave concern at the ongoing negotiations on Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) trade deal by the BJP government with ASEAN countries, China, Japan, Austria, New Zealand and South Korea.
There is no transparency in the entire process of negotiations. The BJP government controlled by RSS has not been taking the domestic stakeholders into confidence. There is no consultation either with the state governments or there was any discussion in Parliament.
At a time, when the economic crisis is deepening in every sphere of our economy, particularly in the agrarian sector, the RCEP the way it is being negotiated, will have adverse impact on our dwindling economy.
While urging the government not to sign the agreement, the CPI extends support to the protests against the move of the BJP government particularly by the All India Kisan Sabha which is organising nationwide protest on 4th November, 2019.
