Ensure Free Vaccination to All as Assured: CPI
The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement today (on June 8, 2021) on PM’s amended vaccination policy:
The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India reiterates its stand that making free vaccines available to all citizens of the country is the responsibility of the central government and not at all an act of charity. CPI along with other opposition parties and non-BJP chief ministers had been repeatedly urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure supply of vaccines so as to save precious lives of our citizens. All appeals were just ignored.
Finally, the Supreme Court intervened and directed the government to do so. The party wants the government to ensure free supply of vaccines with full transparency. The Party also wants the government to take into confidence the state governments as well as the public so that the entire population is vaccinated properly.
The Party feels that there is no logic in allowing private hospitals to provide 25 per cent of vaccines and vaccination with a charge of Rs.150. The Party emphasises that the entire vaccination must be free and be the responsibility of the central government.
Along with ensuring free supply of vaccines, the Party wants the government to provide free ration and financial help to all the needy as the employment situation is very grim.
