Mr. PM, Where is Economic Package for livelihood of the poor?: CPI
The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India (CPI) issued the following statement today (on April 14, 2020) terming the PM’s announcement as disappointment:
In his speech to the Nation Prime Minister Modi announced the extension of the lockdown as expected.
However, the entire nation expected that the Prime Minister would announce an economic package along with lockdown extension. In fact, he left them in dark and disappointed.
The CPI, other opposition party leaders and experts from all vital sectors have repeatedly urged upon the government on the urgent need for an economic package, mass free testing, free medicine, advance salary remittance in the accounts of all working people including wages for MGNREGA workers, insurance cover for all, wage and job protection for all workers in informal and formal sectors and also to the workers who have lost their jobs in MSME sectors, universal free PDS with all essential commodities, etc.
CPI demands more investments in health sector to increase preparedness to face the pandemic COVID-19. The party also demands expansion of procurement activities in a decentralised manner and support to farmers for Rabi harvest season. The government should lift the foodgrains from the FCI godowns and supply them to the needy poor people.
CPI hopes that when the guidelines are announced the issues raised above are given due consideration.
