CPI MP Com. Binoy Viswam today gave notice in Rajya Sabha Under rule 188 to raise a question of involving a breach of privilege against Smt. Nirmala Sitaraman. Binoy Viswam in his notice said that Ms. Nirmala Sitaraman in her reply to the discussion on the union Budget 2019-20 claimed that the problem of NPA is judiciously resolved. However, she does not reveal how much is recovered, how much is sacrificed and what is the amount of haircut the banks suffered. Binoy in his notice points out that, around 20 public sector banks have provided Rs 216410 crore bad loans and other contingencies for the year ended 31-03-2019. This has incurred a net loss of 66,606 crores to these banks by profiting corporate companies such as Reliance, TATA and Sterlite fame Vedanta.
The notice also referred to the silence of finance minister to the argument of P Chidambaram (former finance minister) who in his budget speech mentioned that the five years of Modi-1 government, Rs 5,55,603 crore was written off for corporates.
Binoy said that, the government should tell these facts to the house. Ms. Nirmala Sitaraman by hiding and being silent on such facts misinformed and misled the house to believe that bad loans are being recovered, by not mentioning the amount of corporate loans written off by her Government.
