Support Fully CTUs’ July 3 Nationwide Protest: CPI

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement today (June 22, 2020) extending Party’s full support to the July 3, 2020 protest action by CTUs:

The Communist Party of India extends its full support to the nationwide protest action on 3rd July 2020, called upon by the Central Trade Unions (CTUs) demanding immediate halt to changes in labour laws, abrogating the rights won over after hard struggles of more than 100 years, agenda of disinvestment and wholesale privatisation of public sector enterprises, 100 percent FDI in core sectors viz., Indian Railways, defence, port and dock, coal, Air India, banks, insurance, etc. The CTUs are also opposing the steps taken to favour the corporates, both of Indian and foreign, while mouthing behind the slogan of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

The government did not only fail in getting its own orders and advisories implemented in regard to payment of wages to workers, no retrenchments to be carried during lockdown period, instead, it withdrew its own decision in the face of the case in the Supreme Court by the employers of some companies.

The safety equipments are not being provided to front line fighters in health sectors and all other essential services. The social security cover announced for them is also not being implemented.

The Party also supports the CTUs’ demand that all the stranded workers who desire to go to their homes must be facilitated at the earliest without charging them. All the working people be provided with universal ration, Rs.7,500 help for six months and job generation for those who lost their livelihood.

The Party appeals to all its units to extend all help and ensure that the protest action becomes a success.
